Fundraising Pack

Fundraising for Sir John Soane's Country Villa

It’s sad but true that many worthy causes these days just do not receive enough funds from official sources and are dependent on raising funds through Friends and members of other groups.

Why raise funds for the Friends of Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery and Walpole Park?

As you know, Sir John Soane’s Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery is in the process of a major restoration with the aim of reopening in 2018 to provide a cultural and exciting resource to the local community as well as attracting the interest of those interested in Art, Heritage and Architecture.

It is vital that this building is renovated to a very high standard as it will be a huge benefit to Ealing and all its residents, in a number of ways. Not only is it Ealing’s only Grade 1 listed building but it is set right in the middle of the town, on show to all who visit the area. A renovated Pitzhanger Manor and Art Gallery will upgrade the whole area and, with its extensive programme of social support and interaction, it will benefit all residents of Ealing as well as drawing in visitors from the rest of the country.

The Manor is the forgotten jewel in Ealing’s crown and the Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery Trust have been working hard for the past five years and more, together with the Council, to raise funds to restore it.

While monies have been raised from a number of different sources such as the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Arts Council, Ealing Council and other large philanthropic organisations, this only covers £10.7 m of the £12 million needed to restore the House & Gallery. This means that, at the moment, the Trust does not have the funds to renovate important items in the house such as the statue of Minerva, the fireplaces, some internal glasswork and the fabulous Caryatids. Some of these could be renovated later, but not without considerable disruption, cost and possible damage to the finished building.

The Friends have started a fundraising programme with the aim of supporting the general fundraising appeal which, if successful, will help ensure that these beautiful items are restored in time for the opening.

The Friends of Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery and Walpole Park is not a registered charity and therefore cannot claim Gift Aid, which adds 25% to all donations from the tax-paying public. All monies raised by the Friends are therefore best donated directly to the Trust, which is a registered charity. There is a Gift Aid Form at the end of this pack.
